What separates people who achieve much from those who don’t?  Usually it’s goals!  A person with goals has before her a map of where she’s going and how she plans to get there.  In other words, your goals set your “route” in life.  Many live life wasting away the years God has given because they don’t see the importance of writing down what they want to accomplish.

On our success journey, the first step is just as important as the last.  That journey must begin with S.M.A.R.T. GOALS. S.M.A.R.T. stand for: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.

Most people equate goal setting with their career. But I’m going to suggest that this year you decide to make spiritual goals your first priority. Time is a gift from God. We must not waste our life on what has no value. God’s Word tells us what’s important to Him.  If we will set attainable and realistic goals based on what God has already revealed to us in the Bible — then we have a success plan for life.  This takes away much of the mystery of how we should be living and what we should be going after.  God tells us to have NO OTHER GODS BEFORE HIM.  You can start by asking what “things” or “people” you may have put before Him.

Consider keeping a journal of your spiritual progress and see if you don’t bring in a better future next year because you changed by starting with spiritual goals.  Those who have goals are 80-90% more likely to achieve their goals because they write them down and look at them every day.

Remember the definition of insanity is to continue doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.  Will you decide today to let God have first place in your life and bring you to a different and better conclusion?
