HOW TO RECEIVE FORGIVENESS.

  • Rather, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

Unbelievers sometimes think their sins are too great for God to forgive. But the moment we’re willing to acknowledge and confess our wrongdoing, the Lord accepts us as His child, no strings attached.

God is in the “cleanup” business. He isn’t dependent on our presenting ourselves as clean before He’ll “take” us. That’s Satan’s lie to keep us from approaching God just as we are. God will joyfully accept all who come to Him in true repentance. And that includes the dirty, impure, prideful, or habitually deceived. Those impurities are a result of sin, and we’re all alike, sinners in need of a Savior.

Incredibly, when we present ourselves to Him, He sees us, not our sin. He took care of the sin “problem” a long time ago with Jesus’ death on the cross. Regardless of what we may have done to dishonor Him, God is standing by, ready and willing to forgive and incorporate us into His family. When we make the choice of belonging to Him we inherit the whole kingdom of God.

It’s humbling, even for those of us who’ve been Christians for a long time, to reflect on God’s goodness, demonstrated particularly in His free gift of salvation.

When our hearts have grown cold toward His love and goodness, we can still move forward by asking Him to forgive us. Humbling ourselves softens our calloused hearts and builds intimate fellowship once again. We can be safe in the knowledge that no mistake can ever put us beyond the reach of His love.
